A very different Newbury Racecourse
Newbury Racecourse looked very different this afternoon as it held its first event since lockdown.
With a ring of security around the site and limited access in what was described as a 'Covid Safe Zone' just a handful of horse racing fans were hanging around.
As the loud speaker echoed around a very empty course, many of those around the site were wearing masks and measures to ensure horse safety were in operation. This included guidance as to which side of the path horses should be on after being moved from the stables towards the parade ring.
Earlier this week, Julian Thick, Chief Executive of Newbury Racecourse said: “We are delighted to be back racing here at Newbury this week and are incredibly grateful for the help and support we have received from stakeholders across the industry to get racing back in a safe environment. Key to the restart is the backing of our sponsors, and so we thank MansionBet and the European Breeders Fund for their support across the three days.
“While we cannot yet welcome any owners, we would like to thank them for their ongoing support of Newbury Racecourse and we hope it won’t be too long before we can open our doors to them and all our customers.
“Our team has been working tirelessly to ensure the racecourse is a safe place for all those involved in delivering the three days and the track is looking fantastic.”
