All Debenhams high street stores shut
All high-street Debenhams stores, including Newbury, will close.
The decision to close all the stores comes as a result of the new owners of Debenhams, Boohoo, revealing that they have bought the brand and website for £55m. The deal does not include any of the remaining 118 high street stores or the Debenhams workforce.
Debenhams website receives 300m visits a year, making it a top 10 retail website in the UK by traffic.
Boohoo Executive Chairman, Mahmud Kamani, said: "This is a transformational deal for the group, which allows us to capture the fantastic opportunity as ecommerce continues to grow. Our ambition is to create the UK's largest marketplace.
"Our acquisition of the Debenhams brand is strategically significant as it represents a huge step which accelerates our ambition to be a leader, not just in fashion ecommerce, but in new categories including beauty, sport and homeware."
Confirmation of the closure of the Debenhams store will come as a blow to the Parkway, which has already seen Johnson's Shoes, Pandora and John Lewis all exit the development.
