Appeal for witnesses after inappropriate act in public

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following an incident of outraging public decency in Newbury.

At around 12.45pm on Saturday (11/7) a man and a woman were sat on a bench next to the cricket pitch at Northcroft Park.

The man was shouting and swearing. He then unzipped his trousers and the woman performed an intimate act.

They both then walked off towards Northcroft Leisure Centre.

A 51-year-old man of no fixed abode and a 42-year-old woman from Newbury have been arrested on suspicion of outraging public decency. They have been released under investigation.

Investigating officer Sergeant John Heatley, based at Newbury police station, said: “This was a shocking incident, particularly as the area was busy with families watching a cricket match, so I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this to get in touch.
