Best pizza in Newbury

It’s national pizza day, and Newbury has no shortage of independent and chain Italian restaurants and takeaway to grab a slice of the action.

Trip Advisor reviewers have had their say and here are the five restaurants that have received the highest scores on the famous website should you need any Pizza Day inspiration...

Mio Fore at Inch’s Yard – the newly opened restaurant has become an instant hit with locals looking to try some traditional Italian gems. One review said: “What a fantastic atmosphere. It is just like eating with Italian friends and their family at home in Italy. The atmosphere is bright and buzzy and the food is "pure Italy". Loved it! The soups and starters are tasty and special and the pizzas and pasta are delicious. I love bresaola and they even use that of one of their pizzas. The waiters and funny, engaging and help make the evening a real occasion. The owner and his wife serve as well and you really do feel as though you are their friends sharing an evening with them. Great atmosphere and will definitely go again.”

Lusso at Weavers Walk – It’s clay ovens are open for all to see on Weavers Walk, with pizza cooking using the finest fresh ingredients at another recent addition to the restaurant scene in Newbury. One recent review said: “What an amazing little restaurant Lusso is and a great addition to the Newbury restaurant scene. The menu is not huge but covers all bases. Lovely starters, great choice of delicious fresh (big) pizzas that can be as simple or complicated as you want. A nice range of good wine and beers to drink and a delicious range of ice cream to finish makes this fresh new restaurant a sure future favourite for our family if our first visit is anything to go by!”

Strada at Market Place – Offering money off when you go the Vue or Corn Exchange, Strada as a chain has been around for a while with its consistent offering. This is what one review said: “Our first trip to Strada will definitely be our first of many in future. We eat out when we can and with having a 7 year old, sometimes struggle with either a restaurant menu content and activities being too young or old. Strada ticked all the boxes and had great choice on their children's menu & activities for a wide range of age. Our meals were all great, not like a usual chain of restaurants where sometimes it looks ore-prepared. Everything looked freshly cooked and well presented. The staff were also very attentive.”

Elephant at the Market – With 2-4-1 pizzas in the early evening during the week, the Elephant is a good bet when it comes to some traditional Italian fare. One reviewer on Trip Advisor spoke very highly of their pizza and cocktail combo. They said: “Great place for a relaxed bite to eat. The pizzas are excellent and always a safe bet due to the onsite oven. The other main meals can be a little hit and miss in terms of not quite meeting expectation. The cocktails are great and the service is always quick and friendly. I quite like the quirky decor and there's a nice space out the back when it's warmer. It's a really good place to go out for a casual dinner or a weekend lunch with friends. There's plenty of choice of the menu and something to suit everyone.”

Ask at the Market place – At number five on the list is chain restaurant Ask. Despite being ranked number 47 on the overall restaurant list in Newbury, Ask performs well when it comes to pizza according to the reviews. One reviewer said: “Christmas Eve - those working on this windy, chilly, dark, night were probably desperate to call it a day and return home for the festivities. Not here! Through no fault of our own the seven of us (us, children and grandchildren) arrived very late for our booked table. The last customers. But the two waitresses who were on duty still greeted us with genuinely welcoming smiles (as did the chefs) and looked after us brilliantly throughout an enjoyable meal - great pizzas and the pasta was also good. Were they under-staffed? Those two waitresses never showed it and never wavered! They coped without a hitch for everyone enjoying the restaurant. Brilliant! Nothing was too much trouble. The management should be proud of them! Unsung heroines (and hero chefs)! So good food, great reception ... we will return.”
