Council Tax rise to be discussed
Residents in Newbury and across West Berkshire face looking again at their monthly budget calculations as a Council Tax rise is earmarked.
Councillors are due to discuss the prospect of a Council Tax rise on Monday 19 February at an Executive meeting.
One item on the agenda proposes a Council Tax requirement of £94.84m requiring a Council Tax increase of 2.99% in 2018/19 with a 3% precept ring-fenced for Adult Social Care.
The Council Tax increase will raise £2.7m and the precept will raise a further £2.7m ring-fenced for Adult Social Care.
While Councillors are mulling over dipping in to the pockets of residents in the form of a council tax rise, a separate report has suggested that the current financial forecast is an over spend of £860k against a net revenue budget of £117.4million.
