Crackdown on bike thefts leads to arrest

Thames Valley Police has arrested an individual caught trying to steal a bike in Newbury Town Centre this afternoon.

The news comes as appeals for another two bikes were issued today.


Between 6.25pm and 7pm on 11/08, offender(s) stole a Rockrider mountain bike which was left secure in Market Place, Newbury.


Between 4pm and 5.30pm on 11/08, offender(s) stole a Rockrider ST 540 mountain bike which was left secure in Northbrook Street, Newbury.


A statement read: "Following a plain clothes operation in the Newbury Town this afternoon. One individual has been caught red handed trying to steal a bike and is currently under arrest.


"Please be aware recent thefts have involved locks being cut, we advise rigid bike locks to be used in an attempt to keep your bike safe!"
