Food retailer could take over Next outlet

The owners of Newbury Retail Park have asked the Council if a retailer can sell food from the store currently occupied by Next.

According to an application the Council, the owners want permission for a retailer to sell food from the ground floor of the building. It goes on to say: "As part of the planning application proposals, the existing mezzanine floorspace in Unit 3 would not be utilised when food sales commence within the unit."

No information has been shared about who would occupy the site.

The owners of the Retail Park are governed by strict rules about where food can be sold within the development. Permission had to be granted from the Council for Homebase to become a Lidl.

Earlier this year rumours circulated on social media about the future of the Next store after the signage at the front of the building was removed during lockdown. It was later replaced.
