Former Debenhams site to become leisure scheme
Owners of the Kennet Centre have submitted an application to West Berkshire Council that could see the former Debenhams store transformed.
In a document outlining their proposals, it owners, Lochailort say despite extensive efforts, it has not been possible to secure a new retail occupier for the two-storey unit.
As a result of this they are looking to get temporary permission for three years that would allow any of the follow to operate. Indoor or outdoor sports, gymnasiums, skating rinks, bingo & dance halls (though not night clubs), music & concert halls and cinemas
Kennet Centre bosses added: "For the avoidance of doubt, the former department store unit is not suitable for occupation as a cinema, due to its structural configuration and internal arrangement."
A plan to build a bowling alley within the Kennet Centre was approved with an opening scheduled for last year.
