Half term fun at the Corn Exchange

This October, the Corn Exchange presents a wide variety of activities to keep children entertained over the half term. This includes family-fun shows as well as spooky, halloween-themed workshops at the Learning Centre and The Base.

From 31 Oct – 1 Nov, the Judith Kerr classic The Tiger Who Came to Tea will be brought to life on the Corn Exchange stage. A stunning adaptation of the tale of teatime mayhem, this Oliver-award nominated show is a family favourite packed with oodles of magic, sing-a-long songs and clumsy chaos. Bearface Theatre will also present a variety of magical, musical performances over the autumn half term, including Marvellous Musical Storytelling (28 & 29 Oct), an interactive show with the option to play along with the characters as the story unfolds, and, in the Learning Centre, Spooky Stories (31 Oct), where children are invited to get into the spooky spirit and listen to some terrifying tales ahead of any trick or treating adventures!

At the The Base, The Wonderful World of the Ladybird Book Artists (20 Sep – 15 Dec) exhibition is a detailed look at the hugely popular Ladybird books, told through original artwork and objects, which has been loaned by Helen Day. To accompany the exhibition, Bearface Theatre will perform The Wonderful World of Storytelling (21 Sep, 31 Oct, 16 Nov & 14 Dec) and will bring classic storybook characters to life in an interactive performance within the gallery. Crafty activities at The Base, Greenham include Halloween-themed workshops like Silkscreen Print a Trick or Treat Tote Bag (Sun 27 Oct), where youngsters can create their own bag complete with a scary design, and Halloween Masks (Sun 27 Oct), where papier-mâché will be used to construct your own monster mask. Family Pumpkin Carving will also be taking place at both The Base (26 Oct) and the Learning Centre (27 Oct), where you can create your own spooky lantern and we’ll clear up the mess. For parents who have to work during the holidays, the ever-popular Make and Do Holiday Club (28 Oct – 1 Nov) is an opportunity for young people aged 4 - 8 to enjoy day-long creative fun in the school holidays, and sessions will be running in both the Learning Centre and at The Base.
