Homebase closed at the Retail Park

Homebase at Newbury Retail Park has closed.

The DIY store and garden centre shut, but owners of the Retail Park have already been at work trying to convince West Berkshire Council to let a retailer sell food from half of the old Homebase unit.

It seems that half of the unit will be occupied by one food retailer and half by another shop, although there is no confirmation as to who either will be.

Rumours are that it will be Iceland, Lild or Aldi, with others suggesting it could be Home Bargains who were linked with the former Narrow Boat site on London Road.

Other former Homebase stores have been converted into a 1,000-car dealership in Rochdale, Home Bargains in Macclesfield and Grantham, B&M in Ipswich and a Lidl in Colchester. In Portsmouth a Smyths Toys Store and B&M opened.

Meanwhile at Greenham Retail Park, the former Office Outlet store also looks set to become a food retailer. Planners from the Council are currently deciding whether of not to allow food to be sold there.
