Housing planned for Bayer offices

Planners at West Berkshire Council are mulling over a proposal to redevelop the former Bayer officers and convert the existing building into housing.

The site on Strawberry Hill could house as many as 180 residential units along with 344 car parking spaces.

Last year Bayer relocated its 470 employees to Green Park in Reading after more than three decades in Newbury.

It had also been previously suggested that West Berkshire Council could move to the Strawberry Hill site.

The proposal states that the new residential population would result in additional household spending in the locality, supporting employment in local shops, services and other amenities.

Peter Brett Planning of Reading who submitted the screening request, added: "Again, it is anticipated that these effects would be relatively small and would be unlikely to be noticeable in the context of existing levels of commercial activity in the surrounding area."
