Hundreds enjoy outdoor show
Nearly 300 people were in Newbury’s Market Place on Friday night to watch the Corn Exchange’s latest free outdoor event,Vessel, a preview performance presented by one of the UKs leading street theatre and circus companies, Acrojou.
At 8pm on Friday evening, the crowd gathered on benches outside the Corn Exchange to see a story unfold on the stage of a small wooden boat.
The boat, which was filled with water and had its own fully functioning raincloud attached, was the vessel for a man named Tommaso Giacopini. Using soundscapes, projection, acrobatics and dance, and with the help of one other unnamed man, Tommaso took the audience on his journey along the line between life and death.
Combining uplifting, comic, and moving moments,Vessel’s first ever public preview ran for 40 minutes and was performed by Tommaso Giacopini and Barney White.
The next event in the Corn Exchange’s free outdoor arts programme will see a mesmerising large-scale sound art installation transform Newbury’s Market Place in Ring Out on Monday 29 May, at 1pm, 4pm, 6pm and 9.30pm. Presented by renowned sound artist and composer, Ray Lee, Ring Out comes to Newbury following Lee’s earlier installation of Chorus in 2013.
