Italian gem opens in Newbury
A new Italian restaurant has opened up opposite the Newbury.
Buon Gusto is headed up by a husband and wife team producing some amazingly authentic food.
Welcoming customers for the first time just a matter of weeks ago, this place has caused a stir on social media and had people flocking through the doors.
Walking in on Sunday lunchtime we were greeted as if we were regular guests in the owner's home.
With around five or six other groups checking out this new venture, we scoured our way through the menu opting for the incredibly reasonable lunchtime menu. For £11.95 you can have two courses plus a soft drink.
Although the lunch menu isn't as vast as the main menu, which is still available, it came with choices from meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce to soup for the starters, and chicken pollo to carbonnara for the main with the usual pizza options.
Each of meals are freshly prepared in the kitchen, meaning that this place won't be the ideal spot for a quick bite.
Opting for meatballs in a spicy tomato sauce was the perfect start to this meal, mopping up the excess sauce with some warm crusty bread. My partner opted for a bean soup which was equally as delicious and perfect for a crisp day.
Heading for the main course we opted for a massive pepperoni pizza with a chewy base and lashings of delicious cheese. The pizza certainly gave Lusso's offering a run for its money.
The carbonnara with its prosciutto instead of the usual streaky bacon proved too much and defeated my dining guest who couldn't get over the quality of the dish having had so many chain restaurant versions of this dish.
This place is a gem in Newbury and will certainly be on the agenda for a return visit.
