Major improvement hygiene notice for The Gun
The Gun in Wash Common has received a major improvement notice from West Berkshire Council.
Located on Andover Road, the restaurant was inspected in July this year and was given the second lowest hygiene rating available, a one rating.
According to the report, obtained via a Freedom of Information request, the Gun failed to provide soap for staff to wash their hands and needed to clean the walls in the kitchen to remove old food debris.
The report also stated that raw prawns were stored above salad in the fridge, and there were issues with the washing of food.
The inspector stated: “Before sanitisation of food, prep sink after raw meat washing and before using same sink for cooked food rinsing, eg cooked rice.”
This was an action highlighted as needing to be done immediately.
The Gun’s website states their menu centres around authentic Indian food, where their chefs cook fresh meat, fish and vegetables marinated in unique sauces.
