More protection for our pubs
Pubs like the Diamond Tap, which is currently up for sale, could have extra protection from being turned into shops and temporary office space.
The House of Lords is going to be debating removing a planning loophole that means West Berkshire Council, and other planning authorities, have no control over the pubs being turned into shops for example.
If the House of Lords agree on the idea, then the proposal will be put before MPs like Richard Benyon in the House of Commons.
A change in the law will not only add additional protection pubs in the future but could have saved many of our old favourites in Newbury closing such as the Anchor on Northbrook Street.
