MP reacts to John Lewis closure
Newbury's MP, Laura Farris, has said the closure of John Lewis in the Parkway is "such a shame for the town centre."
The Conservative MP posted on her social media this afternoon.
"I am very sorry to say that I have received confirmation this morning that John Lewis & Partners in Newbury will not be reopening it’s doors. This is such a shame for the town centre and I know will affect many jobs. I will be asking the Head Office to ensure that all redundant staff have my details so I can support them with finding new employment as much as possible."
The John Lewis store is one of eight that the chain will be shutting permanently and follows a string of other outlets to leave the town such as Cafe Rouge, Bella Italia and Laura Ashley.
