New traffic lights get turned on
The switching on of new traffic lights in Newbury has caused more of a stir than the annual Christmas tree event.
All of the talk has been about the £1.8 million project, funded by developer's contributions from the Newbury Racecourse development and Local Transport Plan capital grant funding to create more capacity on the busy town centre network.
This phase of the work at the junction of the A339 and Cheap Street means traffic can now turn right from the dual carriageway into Cheap Street.
Tonight traffic was moving smoothly over the new junction, although many are questioning the reason for traffic lights on the southbound side of the carriageway.
It is worth noting within Cheap Street two-way flow is maintained between the new A339 signalised junction and Kings Road West. Therefore between Kings Road West and Market Street will now be one way in a northern direction.
