Newbury Civic Award nominations open
The Newbury Town Civic Award Schemes have been launched for 2017.
The awards are split into two categories to highlight the huge amount of voluntary work carried out in our community in many ways by so many local people.
This year we are putting an emphasis on ‘Good Neighbours’. Quite often, shopping, collecting prescriptions, cutting the grass for an elderly neighbour is overlooked, however this can sometimes be just as important to our community as running a youth or support group, fundraising for a charity or being a Governor of a School.
Mayor of Newbury, Cllr Julian Swift-Hook, said: “If you know someone who gives up their time to make a difference in Newbury, whether it’s doing a bit of shopping for their neighbour or raising huge amounts for charity, we want to hear about them. Quite often small things can make a huge a difference in people’s lives, things that might otherwise go un-noticed, and our Civic Awards are a way of celebrating those contributions and the impact they have.”
“Just filling in our simple Nomination Form is all it takes to put someone forward for an award. It only takes a few moments, and your nomination could be one of our winners this year.”
Nomination forms for both Civic Award Schemes are available from the Newbury Town Council website www.newbury.gov.uk where the forms may be completed electronically or downloaded. Paper copies of the forms may be collected from The Town Hall, Market Place, Newbury, RG14 5AA or by telephone 01635 35486.
The closing date for nominations to be received is Friday 8 March and presentation of awards will take place on the evening of Monday 20 March.
