Newbury ranks ok when it comes to burglary claims
Newbury’s status as being a pretty decent place to live was confirmed today in a Moneysupermarket.com survey that looked at burglary claims across the UK.
According to the stats that looks at the likelihood of people making a burglary claim, Newbury (RG14) is ranked at 685 that’s out of the 2,195 postcodes there are across the UK.
The information shows there is a 1.5% chance of getting burgled in the Town. This puts it in a better position than places nearby such as Tilehurst and Southcote, but less favourable than Thatcham, Aldermaston as well as both central Reading and Basingstoke.
Nationally the areas with the lowest levels of claims for burglary were in North Tyneside, Witney and St Austell.
Kevin Pratt, consumer affairs expert at MoneySuperMarket, said: “It is encouraging to see the overall rate of burglary claims has dropped eight per cent in the last year, in line with the fall in recorded burglaries. That’s no doubt thanks to improvements in home security, although the falling cost of electrical items, such as TVs, might be significant as, simply put, there’s less need for burglars to steal items than in the past.”
