Opens next weekend - Take a tour of Brick City at The Base

Take a tour around the world this summer with Brick City, an exhibition of iconic buildings recreated in LEGO® bricks at The Base, Greenham from Friday 5 July to Sunday 8 September.

Constructed by artist Warren Elsmore, Brick City is a celebration of some of the world’s favourite buildings and urban icons, recreated using only LEGO® bricks.

Comprised of an estimated half a million LEGO® bricks it features highlights from Rio through to New York, tall towers from Copenhagen to Venice and imaginative castles from medieval Japan. It also includes famous landmarks such as St Pancras Station, the London 2012 Olympic Park as well as the iconic ‘Welcome to Las Vegas’ sign.

Warren Elsmore is an artist in LEGO® bricks and a lifelong fan of LEGO® who is based in Edinburgh, UK. He has been in love with the little plastic bricks since the age of four and now spends his days creating amazing models.

In 2012 Warren moved to working full-time with LEGO® bricks and created his first book, Brick City, which was released in 21 languages to critical acclaim, followed by a catalogue of books and commissions recreating famous places, objects and events in LEGO®.

There are two Relaxed Days (26 Jul & 14 Aug), where there will be reduced numbers admitted into the gallery and extra staff will be on hand to offer support to those with additional needs. For adult fans there will be special evening openings for Grown Up Nights (19 Jul & 17 Aug).

Families can make their visit to The Base extra special this summer and try their hand at building their own creations using LEGO® and DUPLO® bricks in the Brick Den. Adults can also draw inspiration from the exhibition and explore shape and colour in the Bricks on Silk workshop (13 Jul) with Helen Mortimer.

Warren Elsmore says "The whole team here is excited to bring Brick City to The Base and see the range of other activities happening around the exhibition. When we first built Brick City it was always the hope that the models would inspire builders of all ages to get creative and construct their own city. I can’t wait to see what the people of Newbury can dream up!"
