Plans revealed for pub and restaurant openings
A number of Newbury's pubs and restaurants have revealed when they will be re-opening.
The news comes after the Prime Minister announced that outlets such as pubs and restaurants could welcome back customers from Saturday 4 July.
To help get the boozers and restaurants in Newbury get back open, West Berkshire Council has simplified the application process when it comes to applying for a licence to make the best use of outdoor space permitting them to increase their potential offering of additional chairs and tables.
Speaking about the initiative, Richard Somner, Executive Member for Transport and Countryside, said: “We are committed to helping our business make better use of their outdoor space so that pubs, cafes and other hospitality businesses can welcome customers back safely, soon.
“We’re doing everything we can to help them get back on their feet after being closed for the past few months. Acting quickly to streamline our licencing processes is part of that drive. Allowing a temporary 3 month licence will ensure they can make the most of the summer.
“This move is one of a number of measures we’ve taken to support the safe re-opening of local businesses and we want to reassure those in the hospitality industry that we stand with them as they look to recover from this difficult time.”
