Police patrols to be stepped up

As part of the ongoing rape investigation, officers from Thames Valley Police will be carrying out high-visibility patrols in the town over the coming days and into the weekend.

The patrols will focus on the town centre of Newbury and officers will be speaking with members of the public as part of the extensive investigation.

The following standard safety advice when out at night has been issued:

• Plan ahead and pre-book a taxi for your return journey home. • Ask to see the driver’s photographic taxi licence identification before getting into the vehicle. • Where possible travel home with a friend. • Know your limits to avoid drinking too much alcohol. • Make sure someone knows where you are and when to expect you back.

If you have any information relating to the two incidents please contact Thames Valley Police on 101 quoting reference number 782 (1/3).

Should you see or hear anything suspicious please speak with an officer on patrol or call 101. Always call 999 in an emergency, when a crime is in progress, or there is an immediate threat to life.
