Skyllings Playground improvements completed
A new playground has been installed at Skyllings and includes new play equipment for children aged between 4 and 16 years old.
Children can now enjoy this brand new area which includes a ‘wobble board’, ‘spinner’ and ‘gravity bowl’ together with other play equipment.
Children will love the fast-paced spinner, as they try to go as fast as they can. The Gravity Bowl is great for sitting in and encourages teamwork and sharing with others. All of the equipment has been created to help develop balance, improve physical development and allows children to experience the thrills of speed and movement in a safe environment.
There’s a ‘rota-bounce’, which has a 360’ rotating top bar. It has a fast-paced bouncing and rocking motion and again encourages teamwork and children can learn about weight and gravity in addition to testing their coordination, strength and agility.
After seeking the views of local residents earlier in the year, the Council agreed to remove the existing MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) and install the new play equipment. The MUGA has now been relocated to City Recreation Ground as part of the Town Council’s Strategy to provide outstanding parks, playgrounds and public spaces.
The play equipment was installed by contractors, Playdale Playgrounds.
Cllr Martin Colston, Leader of the Council, said: “As part of the Town Council’s Strategy, we are committed to ensuring safety and quality by implementing a long-term rolling plan for the refurbishment and/or replacement of our playground and other park equipment when it reaches the end of its life.
“I am delighted that the Skyllings play area is now complete – it will be great fun for the local children to explore and have this resource on their doorstep. This extensive, innovative range of equipment is designed with both fun and safety in mind.
"This work is being funded from Community Infrastructure Levies, which are collected on new developments in the area and are used to improve community facilities."
