Takeaway from Big Tongue
When Wau closed there were many who feared they wouldn't get the chance to sample decent Malaysian food in Newbury again.
And then came along Big Tongue on Bartholomew Street.
As has become a little tradition lately, we decided to pick up a takeaway from one of the many Newbury eateries opening up for takeaway and delivery.
Opting for Big Tongue, its menu features beef rendang curry; chicken, ham and egg noodle soup among with other choices as well as a host of dim sum choices.
The braised pork belly cost £8.50 and sat in a dark homemade soy sauce with fresh spring onions, a boiled egg along with a healthy portion of steamed rice included in the price. When we say healthy, we mean large.
As well as the pork belly, we took delivery of a prawn nasi goreng. This a pretty simple dish made up of fragrant rice with prawns, sweetcorn, peas and shredded omelette. This one cost £8.50 of its £7.50 if you prefer chicken instead of prawns.
And finally the flaky roti canai with a dhal was a great way to mop up the nasi goreng.
Big Tongue is open for takeaway and delivery from its base on Bartholomew Street opposite the Newbury Pub from Monday to Saturday between 5pm and 9pm.
