The train to nowhere
Train passengers in Nebwury have been used to swapping the track for the bus this year, but July promises to be among the worst periods of track closure.
That's because for the majority of July there will be no trains at all running through either of Newbury's two railway stations.
There will be just 11 days during the month when a train will arrive or leave the town. The rest of the time buses will be escorting passengers.
Despite this, GWR has so far failed to answer the pleas of commuters who have seen journey times double despite prices remaining static.
Engineers from Network Rail are currently working to electrify the line between Reading and Newbury.
The trains will not run on:
Monday 9 to Thursday 12 July
Monday 16 July to Sunday 5 August
According to Network Rail electric trains will run through Newbury by early 2019. No specific month has been announced yet.
