Tree concern at Victoria Park
There is growing concern about the amount of damage there could be to the trees at Victoria Park when work starts on the new cafe.
This comes at a time when contractors for Newbury Town Council are removing five trees which run alongside the Park Way so it can fix railings. New trees semi mature will be planted to replace those lost within the Park later on in the year.
A tree expert at West Berkshire Council has voiced his concerns about the greater impact construction of the new cafe would have.
Andrew Giles who is the Council's Tree Expert, said: "There are significant mature lime trees that will be adversely affected by the proposals."
He added: "My concerns are with the vehicular and plant access to the site and the demolition itself which could cause the adjacent trees and those along the access damage through compaction."
