Wau fails to wow hygiene inspectors



New restaurant Wau failed to wow food inspectors during a visit in December.

As part of our work investigating the one star hygiene report from the MFA Bowling Alley, we also saw that Cheap Street's Wau had also scored a similar low score.

A Freedom of Information request revealed that they had out of date chicken and dairy in the kitchen.

The report said: "High risk food, such as dairy and chicken products were found on your premises which were past their use-by date. The use-by date is the date until which the manufacturer of the food guarantees it is safe to eat.

"Food sold beyond its use-by date may be of poor quality or unfit."

At the time of inspection there were issues relating to dirty cloths that were used to wipe and used as board rests on food contact surfaces.

West Berkshire Council has since said standards have improved.

Wau did not return our request for a comment.
