"Why can't we have something to be proud of?"

One resident has branded the proposed new sheltered housing scheme that will replace Iceland as “something for all in Newbury to be embarrassed by.”

Philip Wood who lives in Donnington suggested that West Berkshire Council “reject this retrograde step in the design and encourage a far more sympathetic treatment of Bartholomew Street.”

In the comments submitted to planning officers he claims that the whole development is overbearing, over dense and, in general, a massive over development of the site.

He adds that the new plans have removed any attempt at fitting in with the street scene, the proposed frontage looks like an outdated 1980s shopping mall
